Current Project:

Sri Chinmaradi rural high school, Shanubhoganahalli, Tarikere, Karnataka
The school currently serves students from 9 surrounding hamlets within a 4-6 km radius. The students are from families of poor farmers struggling to survive. Classes are being held in a 5-room building in need of major repair. Basic facilities such as restrooms, library and lab are lacking and the students are barely able to keep up with the high school graduation requirements. The local community is too poor to contribute any resources to the school.

OSAAT’s commitment is to fix the roof and build 2 new rooms for the school. OSAAT will partner with the newly formed alumni association of the school consisting of some Cisco employees dedicated to help the school. Estimated cost: $10,000.

Govt. Primary school, Nagerkoil, Tamilnadu
The school currently serves children from the slum area of Vadiveeswaram, Nagerkoil. The parents are predominantly day-laborers surviving on less than Rs. 18,000 per year. There is one room built with concrete walls and tile roof serving as the office and staffroom. Classes are being held in one large room constructed with mud walls and roof, badly in need of repair. The children sit on the mud floor. The school lacks basic facilities such as restrooms and drinking water. A temple nearby is the only source of clean drinking water.

OSAAT’s commitment is to reconstruct the classroom, contingent upon the involvement of the local community to support and maintain the school, given the numerous non-infrastructure related needs that have also been identified. Estimated cost: $5,000.
