About School

Kuruvinakoppa village is located in Kalaghatagi Taluk, Dharwad District, Karnataka State, and is about 22 k.m. south of Dharwad city. The population of the village is about 6000 and the major occupation of the locals is agriculture and allied activities. Government of Karnataka started this ‘Higher Primary School’ in 1914. There are 482 kids enrolled in Grades 1-8 in the 2013-2014 academic year.

The Domino Effect

Sanjeev Acharya, President and CEO of Silicon Sage Builders, Santa Clara, California, USA, graciously adopted and funded the entire project. His generous donation is the first project successfully completed under our “Adopt A School” program, and has generated interest from other donors to do the same!

People’s Organisation for Wasteland and Environment Regeneration (POWER), Bijapur, an FCRA (Foreign ContĂ„ributions Regulation Act) registered non-profit organization, used the expertise of their volunteers in overseeing the construction from start to finish.

We are proud to start this journey. We are grateful and optimistic that people will want to continue this domino effect, so we can do more.


Before OSAAT Intervention

  • Out of 11 classrooms in the school building, 4 class rooms were in a dilapidated condition, and had been ordered for demolition by the Education Department.
  • Another 3 class rooms had asbestos/RCC roof and cracked walls in a dangerous and dilapidated condition.
  • The school had a toilet block and an overhead water tank in usable condition.

After OSAAT Intervention

  • The old, dilapidated rooms were demolished and 2 brand new classrooms were built.
  • Government of Karnataka had sanctioned the building of 3 classrooms on condition of demolition of the old structure.
  • The school is all set to pursue this commitment to add 3 more brand new classrooms.
