DSET Public School, Sobaibandh, Karnai (P.O), Ballia, Uttar Pradesh

  • STATUS: Dressed up and ready for Kids in 2017!
  • LOCATION: Sobaibandh, Karnai (P.O), Ballia, Uttar Pradesh
  • NO. OF STUDENTS: 450
  • GRADES: Lower Kindergarten to 7, and Special Education (Learning disabilities)
  • OSAAT CONTRIBUTION: USD 20,000 for 2 new classrooms and other amenities

The school is currently operated with donations raised by Daya Sumitra Education Society (DSES), based in the USA, and other major donors that have made a commitment to support the school for 5 years, until it is eligible to apply for Government aid and grants. The number of students served is 450 but the facilities are totally inadequate. The local community is impoverished and unable to help in any way. Classes are held in 2 classrooms with unfinished walls, and an outdoor shed with no walls is used for 3 more classes. Additional classes are being conducted in 4 unfinished rooms with asbestos roof. Construction of some new classrooms had started but the work was intermittent, dependent on funds from DSES.

None of the rooms had proper window frames and windows. Construction had stalled due to lack of funds. The school needed 2 new classrooms.

Two new classrooms were added. All the unfinished walls of the existing rooms were finished with plastering and paint. Existing asbestos roof was replaced with concrete roof. Window frames and windows were installed in all rooms.

The Domino Effect

The school just completed 5 years of operation. With proper facilities to serve all the students enrolled, the school can offer additional programs. The school is also eligible to apply to Government grants.
