Ballia, Uttar Pradesh
The school is currently operated with donations raised by Daya Sumitra Education Society (DSES), based in the USA, and other major donors that have made a commitment to support the school for 5 years, until it is eligible to apply for Government aid and grants. The number of students served is 450 but the facilities are totally inadequate. The local community is impoverished and unable to help in any way. Classes are held in 2 classrooms with unfinished walls, and an outdoor shed with no walls is used for 3 more classes. Additional classes are being conducted in 4 unfinished rooms with asbestos roof. Construction of some new classrooms had started but the work was intermittent, dependent on funds from DSES.
The Domino Effect
The school just completed 5 years of operation. With proper facilities to serve all the students enrolled, the school can offer additional programs. The school is also eligible to apply to Government grants.
